My Video Plan
Song - Party Favor
My chosen song is Party Favor by Billie Eilish. The song doesn't have a music video so I will be creating what I think would go best with the song. Billie normally goes for a scary/ creepy style in her music videos but this song to me is more like 90's indie and needs a music video that reflects it. I want the music video to be simple and reflect that 90's vibe I feel when I listen to the song.
Billie Eilish Music Videos
A few screenshots I have included show some of the creepiest parts of Billie Eilish's music videos. She incorporates horror into her music videos for the shock factor and because she knows people will share it around. My idea for the music video I'm making is to go in a completely different way and make it very wholesome to contrast to her normal style. Party Favor was released in the album "don't smile at me" in 2017. I've decided to do a different style to her normal music videos as I think it will be a nice contrast and think it will fit very well with the song.
Artists Target Audience:
Billie Eilish is one of the biggest female artists on the earth right now, which means people of all ages and backgrounds listen to her and follow her life. According to statistics, her live performances normally have a 65% female audience meaning only 35% is male, this could be completely up to who relates to her music or it could be about who shes making this music for. When she first starting gaining traction her audience was mainly just 12-16-year-olds but as shes matured it can go anywhere up to people aged 25 or older.
Reflection
Target Audience:
I believe my music video would suit Billie's target audience as it showcases a teenage girl conveying struggles many girls her age would go through. It is relatable and shows how a girl ( that make up 65% of her fan base ) would get through the struggles of a breakup. On the other hand, it doesn't exclude the 35% of male viewers as they can still see what she is going through in the video and would most probably have gone through similar situations in their life.
Description:
In the past few weeks, we have been planning on filming and editing a music video to a song which we individually chose, a few days ago I filmed and edited the video. I filmed the video with Eloise who was the talent for my music video, I didn't have any crew with me as we are in a pandemic and cant be in groups of people. She acted as the main character in the video while I directed and filmed. We had a plan going into it but as we were making it we got more and more ideas which we were able to incorporate and make a really well put together video.
Feelings:
While filming my music video I was excited to be getting it done as I felt a sense of accomplishment, I was decently prepared so I wasn't too worried about getting it done. But this was the second time I was filming my music video therefore I had some apprehension. When I finished filming my music video I was very pleased with all the footage as I checked it all before we left the location ( even though it was -1 and we were freezing). From what I could tell Eloise enjoyed filming and also liked being apart of the video, she was excited to see the end result and also liked acting through-out. I really liked filming it with Eloise as she would always give her input and helped me if I was ever stuck on what to film, this created a very positive environment to film in. I personally really like the song we filmed a video for therefore I wanted to do it justice, this is why I refilmed my video because the first time I filmed it just didn't make sense.
Evaluation:
I believe we made good time while filming my music video as we wanted to get it done in a very productive way, we worked well together and got everything I needed to film done in around an hour. I wouldn't say there was anything negative about filming my music video as I enjoyed all aspects of it especially editing as that's my favourite part. Because of this, the experience as a whole was good and I would defiantly film with Eloise again, the only negative was the weather but we knew it was going to be bad.
Analysis:
I would say the process went well because we were prepared, we had a lot of time to plan our music videos and this helped to know I had a specific vision so on the day of filming I could get what I wanted out of it and get all the right shots. Next time I do a project like this I want to make sure I only have to film it once as having to reshoot wasted time that I could have better used on editing and written work. So when I'm next doing a project like this I will be 100% prepared for any obstacles that could mess up my plan. When we were planning our videos I expected it all to go to plan first time without understanding the planning that also has to go into it, hence why I had to refilm my video, I wasn't expecting to be underprepared as I didn't realise there was so much prep that had to go into it.
Conclusion:
After finishing this project I feel I can better plan out filming and I have learnt how to be more productive with my work. I know I will be able to use the skills I have gained while doing this project on many more projects in the future. In the future, I could go one step further and do even more planning on what I am going to film such as doing a propper storyboard and making it as close to what I want as I can. In terms of the whole assignment I have learnt more about timekeeping and making sure everything is ready by its deadline, that will help me personally too not just in media.
Action Plan:
I can use the knowledge I have gained from this project in every project I do from now on but also in everyday life, things like time management and making sure work is done before the deadlines are valuable skills I am happy to have learned. I can use this by always breaking down what I have to do to make it seem more manageable, this helps me to not feel too overwhelmed by what I have to do and each bit I finish feels like a small victory. Next project I will take all of the things I have learnt and incorporate them to ensure I do work when it is set as this helps to stop stress and to make sure everything is done to a high standard.
